We are The Gardner Family. I love this painting / photo my brother created. It shows Gloria and Owen Gardner - our late parents, myself in the bright orange T shirt, my brother Anthony (Aniefe) clutching my hand and my sister Paula in her chiffon, pink shawl next to Dad.
It's been the longest while that you have seen a blog from me on this webpage. I guess my family photo is a good enough place to start. Not only did we have the devastating global pandemic at the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020 but we had our own personal loss and devastation in our little family of five.
Mum, Gloria Elaine Gardner, lost her 3 year fight with lung Cancer on January 10th 2020. My Dad, Owen Gardner, died of natural causes 16 months later on May 16th 2021.
From one moment to the next the world became a very different place. This world does not have Mummy and Daddy in it. The world truly is less dynamic, less bright, less full without them in it.
Because of our firm foundation of prayer, love, faith and family; we three siblings press on. We do have fifty-three years of the sweetest memories to comfort us and hold us up. For that we are forever grateful. As children of faith; we have the hope and the belief that we will one day join them again. This strengthens us. The knowledge that Mum and Dad's spirit is with us day in, day out, also keeps us putting one foot in front of the other.
The title of this blog is 'A New Day'. The reason for this title is as well as going to the Fitness Centre for the first time in over two years today; I am choosing to go back into the Archives and share some of my favorite concerts and shows. Music, Song, lyrics and shows remain a part of me. I may be earning through Real Estate and Brooklyn's wild and crazy New Apartment Developments but music is who I am.
There is one concert scheduled at Tavern On The Green in Central Park, Manhattan in the summer.
I will slowly get back to live shows and plan to do so my spending this time learning new tunes for mostly accapella performances as well as with the traditional Jazz Quartet.
So be on standby for future, more regular blogs here. I guess you will also find them in the more frequently visited facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/alexiagardnervocaljazz
Below are our tributes to Gloria Elaine Gardner and Owen George Gardner. Naturally, we send them off to heaven in the most stylish, happy, celebratory, reverent way we could. We know they were watching us. We know they are proud.
We each have a bracelet that says....
Whenever you are feeling overwhelmed, remember whose daughter/son you are and straighten your crown'
